A Chronological Look at the Texts and Emails Regarding the Retirement of the Colonial Mascot

Organized and Introduced by Several Anonymous Concerned Citizens

In the summer of 2020, COVID-19 was in our country for about three months causing sickness and death.  The class of 2020 were denied closure to their final school year, no sports, no internships, no prom, no in-person graduation, etc.

During this turbulent time our administration & school committee decided to focus on retiring our Colonial mascot and by early fall of 2020, it was done. There were a series of public meetings including official deliberations, but the internal communication and coordination is interesting and informative.

Below you will see some of the texts and email messages from OUR administration, school committee and some staff. These were acquired through Public Records Requests in accordance with the Massachusetts Public Records Law. There were multiple records requests filed between November 5, 2020 and January 21, 2021.  Presently there are appeals before the Massachusetts’ Secretary of State’s office regarding the School District’s failure to release all the records which were requested.
